Jose Garófalo

I am so sorry to have to cancel the CATS March Milonga and the workshops with Jose Garófalo this Saturday, March 7. People have expressed concern about exposure to the Corona Virus. As an organizer I feel a responsibility to err on the side of caution. I personally feel vulnerable with my respiratory system and want to respond to the widespread anxiety we are all experiencing. I’m sure we will to do the obvious health conscious things to protect ourselves and those around us and hope that the situation will improve very soon as more is known about the details of the threat. Thank you for understanding. Stay well.

Jose Garófalo is a modern Renaissance Man who uses his skills and talents in dance, theater, film and visual arts to explore and communicate his love and passion for Tango. He has danced and studied with many of the Old Masters of Tango and produced, performed in and promoted discussions, investigations, films and performances in Buenos Aires, Europe and the United States to communicate the legacy of Tango history and culture.

His list of performances, experiences and accolades run to many pages, but the enthusiasm and genuine affection and admiration from the people who have worked with Jose speaks even more volumes about his gifts and qualities including his infectious humor and joy. After 30 years, he is still exploring, looking for new information and open to new ideas.

Jose directs the annual Cambalache Festival in Buenos Aires since 2004. He has taught at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires since 1998. He is a key participant in the Troesmas research group, dedicated to transmitting knowledge of legendary teachers who are no longer dancing in the milongas. With Carlos Stassi, Jose organized the mythic Buenos Aires milonga called Porteño y Bailarín, where one could also frequently see his paintings exhibited. He lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
